my 1986 saab 900 died in galesburg, IL, 200 miles west of chicago, 45 miles NW of peoria, closer to iowa. it needs a new engine, which will cost close to $2000 to put in, including the engine. it has over 200,000 miles and it is time to let my baby go.
my problem is that it died in an area that has no saab people in it. my CA rust-free car is in great condition, just needs an engine, so i don't want to send it for scrap. to tow it to chicago is too expensive-$400. i talked to some places and they don't want it for parts since no one drives saabs out there. i want my car to have a new home or be used for parts. does anyone have any suggestions? i am heartbroken that my car is 3 1/2 hours from me and in this condition.
should i have the mechanic take some of the major parts out and i could bring them back to chicago to sell? is that expensive? some parts are brand new: battery, radio/CD, brake fluid container, hatchback struts and panel, dashboard panel. i hate to see them destroyed.
does anyone know of an alternative to renting a uhaul and tow dolly?
thanks for any suggestions. i am at a loss. i am trying to sell it but it is just too far from any saab lover...
