OK, spoke to my mechanic, he still can't get the car to start, he said there's no compression and the "rings" may be broken but he won't know that until he takes the engine out. It definitely needs a HG repair, he's been trying to get it started for 2 hrs and nothing. He's applying a "solution" to the spark plugs overnight to see if that will build some compression and we'll discuss what to do tomorrow.

BTW, he's been in business working on foreign cars in my neighborhood for 30 years, a really nice guy, I doubt that he's trying to pull one over on me. Sorry for sounding so clueless about this but I love this car and I'm also trying to avoid a money pit as well.
