There is a chance you warped the rotors -- when we race the car, and do cool down laps, I never pull on the parking brake until the rotors are cold. One time, the PB was used after the rotors were hot hot, and the rotors warped out.
That doesn't help much for your adjustment problem, but you might check the rotors to see if they have runout before you put it all back together.
We rig the cables by adjusting in the center ( under the seat ) per the manual, set the caliper adjusters, then use the adjuster on the handbrake to take up the slack. Once the cable ends have made contact with the seats they rest in, you are just about there.
Then pull the handle twenty times, and get the cables stretched out, and keep advancing the adjust screws on the handle until the cable end on the caliper stays into it's slot. That procedure worked for us on a 1993.
