Firstly I have driven saabs since I bought the 1983 5 speed 900 turbo that same year. That car was totally reliablefor 6 years when the Turbo went out , a poor repair job by a dealer caused engine to get oil starved, but a complete rebuild by another Dealer gave the car new life till it was totalled in an acident. Yes saabs have repair issues, but seldom are they with the engine itself The block , pistons rings valves are mostly reliable as long as oil and filter are changed at about 3,000 mile intervals. transmission are sometimes less reliable in the auto box and 5 speed, but again if maintained with fluid changes at proper interval they too can last as long as the engine 250,000-300,000 miles easily. The ghead gasket is a common weakness, but certain coolants exascerbate gasket failure. You will find leather seat seam seperation a common feature, and rust if car is from a salt road or salt air area. Mid state cars from lower KY. TN, upper GA andf AL are great for having solid bodies and under bodies.Yes about$2,000 and 2,000 more would make you a great and reliable car, but once built do you really want the Chicago winters eatting at your love child? I have 6 and will get a 7th this week end. All rust free. I was going to do some work on the 92 hatch back and the 90 sedan before I sold them , but they are rust free. I guess what I am saying here is someday I will thin the herd down to a 88 SPG, a 93 and a 94 vert
