I completely understand. I will try my best to give more information here. The problems started before I even changed the vacuum lines. I left the car running one day in the driveway and heard it idling really high. I went out to it and it was running at exactly 3000RPMS! I quickly shut the engine off and continued to drive the car for about 60 miles over the course of 2 weeks. One day I went to drive it and it struggled greatly going down the road. I pulled over, looked under the car and the catalytic converter was bright red and it was replaced. Now, the car has a new catalytic converter and the high idle, no start situation is still there. I have owned the car for 10 years and have put about 50,000 miles on it (I don't drive it much as I want to preserve it as in time, it will be a valuable classic).
When I first start the car, It will "chuggle" and blow a small amount of white smoke with a raw odor for about 30 seconds. Then, suddenly, the car will rev up to about 1500 RPMS and then gradually climb up to 3000RPMS. When I shut the car down, it will sometimes NOT start (If warm) or it will start and do the same process (as described above) all over again. Additionally, a check engine light will come on. How do I check for codes on this '89 Saab 900 Turbo. It doesn't have a plug underneath the dash like the current OBDll cars so where is the plug to check the codes and where can I get a machine to check it?
Here's my questions:
What are some of the symptoms of a malfunctioning AMM sensor? In other words, what will the car do if this is bad?
What symptoms will a bad O2 sensor show?
What symptoms will a bad fuel pressure regulator show?
