That Mercon can be mixed with or substituted for Type F? Found this on the Valvoline site:
"The Valvoline Type F transmission fluid is a high quality NON-friction modified fluid. Dexron III/Mercon includes friction modifiers in the fluid additive package."
Mercon was the trade name Ford picked for a Dexron-compatible fluid they us in their later transmissions (can't put Dexron on a Ford label, after all...). Dexron and Type F have been around since long before I started driving, and no Dexron was ever compatible with Type F. Most Dexrons through Dexron V are backwards-compatible (Dexron VI is a different kettle of fish...).
