like the others said... you need to do a really complete flush with Ford type F (as specified in the manual) right away. Cheap + easy. I've found you the link to the complete fluid flush (thanks turbocon86) which I would highly recommend in your case as dilution won't get as much of the Mercon out as I would want (without too many cycles/atf wasteage)... this might just save the transmission you've got!

If that doesn't work + it dies, you've got a big job 1 way or another because the engine + tranny have to come out. If you can DIY you can greatly reduce the cost. Most people wouldn't suck up $3-5k on these cars nowadays, but labour is likely going to be a good chunk of $2k anyway if you have to pay for it to be done at an indy... personally (having been in your situation before), I would suggest finding a (newer) manual rust bucket parts car for cheap. There are lots of them in Montreal (I'm in Ottawa, but lived in Montreal a while ago)... then you have all the bits you'd need to do the swap. We didn't do that when ours failed - at the time, it was our only car + our indy had a free autobox out back + we paid the labour... I'm kinda wishing now we'd taken him up on his other (preferred) option of a manual but my wife didn't want our only car to be a stick... Now we have 2, both autoboxes, both are fragile, one on its' last legs, + I'm keeping an eye out for a good parts car with a stick ;-)... we have gotten probably 7 or 8 years out of the used free autobox though, so in the end, it was a good deal. I actually don't mind the c900 automatic, except it needs 1 more gear (too high rpms on the highway = too much fuel usage + probably wears it faster also)...

good luck!

James...
