...my friend's lovely '87 'vert had the original O2 sensor in it at 175,000km when I got my hands on it... it was running really well, and had perfectly even 850rpm idle... always passed emissions testing as well... I got my hands on it and changed the O2 sensor because the engineer in me can't stand something being there that's supposed to work, not working... and now he hates the characteristic LH2.2 idle bob... the car does do better at emissions, however, and he did notice his fuel consumption improve to the tune of about 50km/tank.
