Shifter Adjustment, of course! Posted by Pyrrhic [Email] (#1124) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Pyrrhic) on Tue, 27 Nov 2012 05:06:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Car is a 87 900i.
I have the Ebntley manual and have been trying to adjust the shifter, I have the usual hard to find fifth and reverse, as well as sloppy shifting on other gears.
Now I'm attempting to fix the shift rod length. I popped opne the shift boot, put the car in third gear, put a rod in the hole to keep it in third, removed the three Torx screws, and attempted to remove the shift level, but it would not come off. The damn upper shift bearing shell was coming off due to spring pressure, but the shifter would not come off.
So I had all this greasy mess in there coming off but not all the way. I had a hard time putting the upper part of the bearing back into the housing, but eventually I got it back in and installed the screws and all back together.
I imagine having the shifter in third gear is preventing me from removing the shift lever as it's at an angle. What do I do?
Cheers from Germany
