Be aware that the adjustment procedure for getting the shaft effective length and rotation correct employs TWO pins and is accomplished by loosening the pinch bolt on the rubber coupling before fitting the pins and then tightening it once the pins are in place. Removing the shift lever is not part of that procedure. One pin goes in the front of the shift control box and the other goes through the shaft just behind where it enters the transmission and also rests in a hole and groove in the rear cover. The transmission must be in third gear during that procedure. You remove the shift lever to adjust the pin that prevents shifting into reverse without lifting the ring below the shift lever knob. It must be in neutral to remove and replace the lever.
