as a C-7 Contractor I have lots of experience with crimp tools, have too many of the Amp type, as well as the pin removal tools.
I've been soldering since the late 60's, making slot cars with brass tube frames so that's not a problem either, yes I do tin the iron, and have Weller solder station too, as well as a solder sucker. And a heat shrink gun.
While the ease of the crimp ons seems nice, I'll do what I did on the Lemons car and solder and heat shrink. I think that the labor intensive part of it is the main reason it's not done on automobiles. I have a buddy that HATES scotch lock connectors, but I do see their place in the grand scheme of things. I prefer to use a match and melt the installation off and then wrap a wire and solder.
