I highly recommend using a 82 degree thermostat and fan switch and Mercedes Coolant / Zerex G05 as per Tom Townsend's website. Loads of info on this if you search here and you can find a link to his cooling system pages... heck, I will google it for you, see link below.
If that does not improve your situation, and if both fans are running as they should, you will likely benefit from a new rad (eg if it is original). The temperature should be near the middle most of the time. If not, the fans should come on and cool the system down. I live in a region with very cold winters and quite hot summers and my 2 c900s operate with the needle in the middle most of the time now, but there were times in the past, before things were updated when they did not.
