Try to find a map for the stock turbo. One place to look is at TurboFast in Australia. Their software has compressor maps imbedded although it doesn't even come close to handling intercooler design and rating acceptably.

Look at your pressure ratio. That is (boost + 14.7)/14.7. This assumes that you are at sea level. Figure out your mass flow in lbmass/minute. If you don't know how to calculate it, and it is pretty involved, another way to get this is to do a chassis Dyno run and correct the readings to the flywheel. For almost all spark ignition engines, 1 lbmass of air burned generates 10.1 Hp (+/- 0.3). That's a thermodynamic given. I've checked this on several engines and Rick Byrnes (Bonneville Sedan Land speed record holder, http://www.RBMotorsorts.com) was kind enough to give me some data from his engine development program which generated in excess of 700 HP from 2.8 liters @ 35 psi boost.

After you have mass flow and pressure ratio, you can check compressor efficiency against the map. At this point you can calculate REAL WORLD compressor discharge temp and make an intelligent decision on whether or not you need a larger turbo. I suspect that you need a much larger intercooler more than you need a larger turbo.

Put thermocouples or thermisters in both the compressor discharge and the throttle body. Throttle body air temperatures in excess of 125 degrees F are NOT acceptable. SEVERE engine damage from detonation can easily occur at this temperature under 20+ psi boost. You can lower this temp by using larger intercoolers or more efficient compressor trims if required.

PS to KevinK,
I can't make it to Summit Point. I'll be at VIR on October 13 for the vintage races.
