Some people reckon that European-made springs are more prone to breakage because the ends are not properly finished, as is done in the Far East. The finishing may reduce stress. But that's not proved and we don't seem to hear about many broken springs here.
With standard dampers (shocks) failure shouldn't affect ride height, unless for some reason the shaft was bent and they couldn't move freely - imagine only physical damage would produce that effect.
I have to say that having experimented with stiffer springs on my previous CSE I settled on the Saab "sports chassis" kit, effectively an Aero suspension, and don't feel the need to stiffen or lower any more than that, though a set of Noel's SAS bars might tempt me when the pound/dollar exchange rate returns to normality. Sadly, the supply of these kits seems to have dried up completely.
