Thanks for the suggestions. I did do a reset/calibration of the ACC, it found no faults, though I realize that is not necessarily definitive.
I don't think the problem is the air mix flap since back in early spring I was just venting in outside air ("Econ" setting) and it was not heated at all, just cool air brought in from the outside. Max cold setting of the air conditioner produces just adequate results when outside temperatures are in the 80s. It can't keep up at all once temperature gets into the 90s and soars towards 100. (I've been driving my old C900 the last couple of days just because its AC works so much better.)
Plenty of pressure in the system, a bit too much on the high side in fact, so I don't think there are any leaks and the compressor should be OK.
I'm definitely not looking forward to getting that old drier out from its nest!!
