Differences in CV Boots? Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Thu, 17 Jan 2019 20:05:12 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The is for my 1994 SAAB 9000 Aero manual trans.
I had my indy replace an outer CV boot a couple of years ago, a job that I hate doing. I supplied the boot as I had been planning to do it myself, but.... This boot is now starting to disintegrate on the small end near the axle, which is a surprise, so it needs to be done again.
I have seen outer CV boots from GKN, Rein and SAAB; the first two cost about $10 each, both made in Italy; the SAAB version is about $30, made in Germany. Is there any difference in quality between these? If the SAAB version is actually better, it is worth the extra $20.
Alternatively, does anyone know the compressed length of the MANUAL transmission axles? I might just pick up one of the cheap aftermarket units since it's too cold to spend much time in the garage.
