Thanks for the info, I'll definitely look into doing this! It would not surprise me if the fan has doubled in price over the last few years the way inflation has been.
I'm definitely not having the same kind of HVAC problems that you are. Aside from the condenser fan everything is working OK, and even with that broken the AC works acceptably well except in the hottest weather at idle.
I don't know what position the blend door should be in for AC operation. It does take the engine some time to warm up the heater core so I'd expect if that was a problem the AC would start out cold and then get warm with the heater core.
When I had trouble with the interior fan it was always due to the connector on the speed controller heating up due to corrosion, charring the wiring and melting the connector. A lot of current flows through there!
I was able to rewire the blower fan and replace the connector using parts from supplier of Volvo wiring parts. (Not surprisingly a lot of the electrical connectors used by Saab were also used by Volvo.)

It's also possible of course for the speed controller to fail though I have not had that happen, at least not yet. ACC2 systems use a power transistor to regulate speed. If it burns out the transistor can be replaced:

You also might want to check high and low system pressures if you haven't done so. Since the 9000 doesn't use a variable-displacement compressor you can judge charge level pretty well by the pressures. It's not unusual for old AC systems to develop slow leaks.
