Girling Master Cylinders - there are 2 types Posted by Gary Stottler [Email] (#1463) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gary Stottler) on Wed, 17 Oct 2012 07:12:50 In Reply to: Doug/Gary, Slyde, Tue, 16 Oct 2012 20:29:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
There are two types of Girling Master Cylinders - the later type (single bore, warning light actuated by float in the reservoir cover) and what I will call the "earlier" type (dual bore with the 2nd bore being the "shuttle" that actuates the warning light if there is different pressure between the two hydraulic circuits). The "later" type is readily available, but the "earlier" type (original to my '77) is not. You can use the later one on and earlier car but you have to change to the later reservoir. I went with having White Post rebuild my earlier one to preserve the originality of the '77, but you are right, switching to the later one could be cheaper (as long as I had a later reservoir).
Thanks!
Gary
