Fred,
Hey, that's great! Given what you've learned, I'd be tempted to drain the fuel tank and put fresh fuel in it, for starters. As to why the control pressure line to the Control Pressure Regulator decided to burst, I'm not sure, but the fact that it ran well when warm suggests that the CPR/WUR is providing more or less the correct control pressure when warm (it may still be "stuck" at a constant pressure and therefore too lean when cold). I guess I would just try to replace that fuel line (http://www.eastofsweden.com in Boulder)for now; it seems unlikely that the pressure in that line could cause it to burst.
All that said, it may still not start cold or run well cold due to both Control Pressure Regulator and/or wiring issues with the cold start system, but it's good to get to a point where the basic fuel system works and then tackle the other issues.
Best,
Gary
