I recommend that you buy a copy of Ashcraft's "Cooling It - A Cooling system Guide" Manual. It is excellent and is specifically for the V4 in the Sonett and 96s.
One thing about the radiator cap is he recommends a 7 psi radiator cap. I know I have gotten those at NAPA shops.
Also try a 180 degree thermostat.
Ashcraft also recommends using an electric fan instead of the belt driven fan.
Has your cooling system been flushed? Perhaps you have blockages. I saw a coolant system recently that seems to have lots of mineral deposits in it. Very unusual but it certainly was causing cooling problems.
I have been told to repair cavitation wear on the back plate of the water pump with JB Weld material to minimize pumping problems.
Good luck.
