All the previous advice is accurate and useful, although the distributor shaft is an evil monkey to try to slide back into the distributor socket once you take it out... BUT, If you got a new cam grind be sure to reve the engine immediately after first startup, and vary the RPM between 2,500 and 4,000 for the first 20 minutes of running. Otherwise... your cam and followers will start swapping metal, which is not a good thing. Also, I used non-detergent 30w oil for my startup, but I'm not sure if it make a big difference, it was just suggested by the machine shop. Also on the cam lobes and bearing surfaces as well as the followers, I was advised to use high-temp molybdenum grease rather than oil or engine assembly lube. GOOD LUCK! Don't worry about half of this if you didn't get a new cam grind.
