You can put 20 airbags into a car and
still offer little crash safety.
The US test does not weight and consider
internal injuries properly. If they did
they would get the same results as for
the EURONCAP test which shows that the
risk of life threathning injuries is very
low in the 9-5 and low in the 9-3.
Btw the old 3series have received the LOWEST
ever safety score obtained by any car in
the EURONCAP test, a clear sign that chest loads
and loads on the neck are far too high.
And how do you explain that SAABs always fall into
less expensive insurance classes in Europe then
their competitors, those folks don't like SAABs
they just know that the safety standard in a SAAB is high.
So I would rather brake a foot or die from internal
injuries... so I drive a SAAB.
On top of everything BMW and Mercedes have not yet submited
the new 3series and C-Class to the EURONCAP test, it seems
that they are not yet so sure about how well they will score.
So, no I don't believe that BMWs are as safe as SAABs and there
are plenty of statistics that back this up!
As to ESP which is supposed to improve the handling of the
car on a wet road, have you ever driven a car with ESP
above it's limits? Did you know that ESP does not work
if the shocks are under 90% of their performance? Did you
know that the breaking distance increases quite a bit if
the shocks age, more then one would believe?
I don't see the need for ESP in a FWD car. I a RWD it only
makes sense cause RWD is not as good on a slippy road which
does not change the fact that overall FWD is the better system
for the average driver. If you believe that BMW drivers are
above average you're kidding yourself.
Regards,
Coolknight
