and you are right...that engine could use more power. The one good thing about those engines is their sound. They emit a sound that makes you think you are going faster than you really are. I think the 323 becomes the 325 in 2001 and gets a little more power, but it still will need more torque. The BMW inline 6's are not known for torque. In fact, I can't think of 24V six that is known for torque off of the line. The first time I took my friend for a ride in my 9-3, and I gave it the boost in first and second gear, he looked at me and said "I wish my car had this much power!". I must admit, the Steptronic is a neat transmission, but if you are going to buy a BMW, buy one of their smooth 5spd transmissions. It will save you some dough on the car as well. If you get the steptronic, be gentle with the shift lever, my friend broke his off.
