Thinking of saying good-bye to 9-3SE

I've had my 2000 9-3SE (auto) for 11 months and am contemplating saying good-bye. I have someone interested in assuming the lease and may buy a BMW 323i. The harsh ride of the 9-3SE is a killer on city (Wash. DC) streets and is getting real old. Otherwise the car has been fine with no problems to speak of.
I've driven the 323i a couple of times and my impressions are as follows:
- seats in the BMW aren't as good as the 9-3's and require getting the sport/premium package for max seating comfort
- engine isn't as powerful as the 9-3's but is smooth and fun with the Step-tronic transmission
- handling of BMW is better (thanks to rear wheel drive and near 50/50 weight distribution)
- ride of BMW is smoother and quieter. The BMW does a better job of absorbing bumps and quieting them.
- trunk capacity of the 323i is less and seats don't fold down unless you get that option
- BMW holds its value better. I am shocked at how much the 9-3 depreciates in the first year. Ouch!
Anyone out there have experience with the 323i that they'd like to share?
Thanks.
