I buy new cars with minimum equipment and am considering a linear 9-3 with 17" wheels @msrp $27,575, a bmw 325 with sport pkg and rear side airbags @msrp $30,280, and finally a Mazda6 with side airbags @msrp $22,170.
I have driven each of them. My main criteria are sporty feel, comfortable high speed cruising and steering accuracy. I don't have any preference at all on looks, interior quality, sound system, leather seats or not, etc. They are all excellent and I am leaning toward the Mazda6 or 9-3. But the feel of the 325 is really something special. Value is important but not an overriding issue. I like the torquey 4 cyl of the 9-3, and it has the best mpg, which is also important. But the Mazda6 is so much cheaper and so powerful.
They are all terrific cars IMHO. It is great that we have so much choice nowadays.
Any comments, especially from anyone who has driven the competition, not just looked at it.
