I think that the 9-3 SS greatly continues the Saab tradition, in much the same way that the 9-5 updated the 9000, the 9-3 SS updates the 900NG/9-3. I don't see the lack of materials you're seeing -- we were impressed with the quality vis-a-vis the old 9-3 in our 9-3 2004 convertible.

The 9-5 will be based on the Epsilon platform, just like the 9-3 SS is. It will probably have an Ecotec-derived turbo'ed engine. We have to face the fact that Saab would not be around without GM. My only disappointment with GM is after not giving Saab any cash for so long (as compared to Ford with Volvo), they're forcing Saab to do the 9-7 off a truck platform. The 9-2 I think is fine, but the 9-7 really should be off the same platform as the Cadillac SRX.
