So despite just seeing the dash lights lite up when I first dropped in/inserted the new Cyl, and turned the key to startposition.......I walked away for an hour and then came back to it. reinserted the new key and it turned thru to ignition! BINGO!!!
What I think happened in that last effort was that in my optimism to see the newly inserted cyl to work, I prolly failed to totally remove the key from the cyl which allowed some spring loaded mechanism to clear. When I came back later to reinsert the key, it worked and has kept working in about 20 attempts since. So i think I'm good!!!!!(happy happy time)
I hope my (blogged) experience here might be helpful to the next guy that finds himself with a very sticky or frozen ignition lock cylinder. That youtube vid about the 9-5 cyl key was very helpful to understanding how to depress the key cyl detent holding the old cyl in the tube.
Thanks Bernie for the thoughts on the starter fuse and its wiring. It was one of my back thoughts to try figure where I might attack the issue from the other end. I really dreaded removing the grand housing over the key Cyl tube and shifter mechanism to get at that electrical switch module.
