Standard size winter tire for your car would be 195-60-15. You could also run the narrower 185-65-15's. Narrower is considered better for snow because they will "knife" in to the snow. Wider tires tend to float on top.
The Arctic Alpins are billed as an ice tire more than a heavy snow tire. Michelin claims they are quiet and long lasting. Have read quite a few positive comments on other boards along with a few bad.
The Blizzaks are the original, and some think still the best, ice tire. They do tend to wear faster which is a trade-off of their ice traction. They are also pretty decent in the deep stuff.
If you live in an area without a lot of snow and more ice and hard pack, the Michelins would be perhaps be the best. Heavier snow and the nod goes to the Blizzaks. What ever you decide, get them mounted on steel wheels and put them on yourself in the fall and off in the spring. Tire Rack or Discount Tire Direct can fix you up with mounted and balanced tires to your door in about 3 days.
