Easy enough to check. With the engine running and the sensor hot, unplug the sensor, good for a CEL, and check the voltages on the non-heater wires with the other lead of the DMM connected to the vehicle ground. If the sensor does have a signal reference to ground you will pick up a voltage. If not there will not be a voltage detected with the other lead connected to ground.
From the description that I have read, it sounds to be that 5 connections would be needed if two lines are showing volts relative to the chassis ground. So we can disagree until someone comes up with a definative description or does the test that I describe. You cannot measure voltages with a single connection, no more than electical current runs out of the wall socket and onto the floor.
You are right about the op-amps being able to reject common mode interference when connected in a differential fashion. But with a connection to two different sensors you really have a di-pole antenna, not a twisted pair! I don't know if we are going to get such details, only shadows.
