I would never say that SUV's are inconvenient. They are very convenient, but everyone knows they are wasteful and not necessary. Can you put the kids in a wagon? Yes. Can you put all of their accessories in the back? Yes. But the SUV is so much easier. It's an arguement that could easily go on for a long time. My personal opinion is that SUV's are the summation of the modern American society. Wasteful. It just so happens that it's the trendy thing to do. Eupopeans don't have many SUV's (hardly any) and they seem to get along quite well.
Does Saab need to sell them in order to stay competetive? Sadly yes.
On a positive note a lot of the manufacturer's are starting to make models that are not so excessive (isn't that the name of a Ford model? The Ford Excessive). Many of the newer SUV's will start taking on more of a station wagon/SUV hybrid look, which will contribute to fuel efficiency and visibilty for other drivers while still giving buyers the convenenience they cherish.
Lastly, don't get me wrong, I'm not a tree hugger, but I am very aware of the current and future status of our resources. I don't expect everyone to go out and buy a Geo Metro or a Honda Insight. Heck, you may as well get yourself a male chastity belt in that case. But, I think that people should set aside their desire for "being one of the Jones'" and think more logically when purchasing an automobile. In fact, I'm not really that offended by the smaller SUV's, it's the gigantic Excursions, Esclades, Denali's, Suburban's, etc. that are absolutley ridiculous. Anyone who drives these must be compensating for something.????

Back to the original post. I'm extremely excited by the introduction of the 9-2. I'm looking forward to seeing it. I was leary about the 9-3SS, but I think that car turned out to be a winner. I think if anyone can make a trailblazer platform work it will be Saab with the 9-7. The phrase 'silk purse from a sow's ear' comes to mind.
