Styling aside, I think the 9-7 is a *must have* product in the Saab lineup. Some purists think a Saab SUV is a mistake but viewed with less emotion and more common sense, its a product they've got to have.
Saab has flat missed perhaps the most profitable vehicle market segment in automotive history. It's a screw up of epic proportions and probably should have bankrupted the company if GM had not become involved. Saab didn't even bother to develop and market of an AWD 9-5 when it was crystal clear that AWD/4WD was taking the N. American market by storm, the largest and most profitable market on the planet. This omission alone is worthy of a complete replacement of senior mgmt.
I'm sure Saab can sell every 9-7 they build as long as their projected volumes are reasonable. And the amount of dealer traffic and consumer interest the 9-7 will generate will be very valuable. Remember, most people who test drive a Saab, buy a Saab. All they need is to get people in the door and test drive their cars. I fully expect the 9-7 will do just that.
