Like many on these boards I am not entirely happy with the rebadging projects, but at least GM is doing something to expand the Saab line, which anyone with a minimum of judgement will agree is necessary. GM Europe is still losing money and GM America is seriously not doing well, so I can see why these cost effective and time saving INITIATIVES were taken. Perhaps they will evolve into something more Saabish down the line (already announced in the case of the 9-2) and also they should contribute to create a momentum dearly needed for more Saabish projects to happen, such as a new 9-5, ASAP! I can think of a few projects from other manufacturers, which started with simple rebadging and grew into very dynamic hot selling automobiles: remember how the G35 got started? Volvo is coming out with a genuine Volvo successor to the Mitsubishi based 40 series. For that matter, Lexus and Infinity essentially started out by rebadging Toyotas and Nissans.
All in all, it's great to see Saab on the move. It cannot survive with a two-car line-up and the resources are just not there to create a genuine Saab line overnight.
Sure, I would have preferred other projects to come out first, like the 9-3 wagon or X-over, but I think there is plenty to be positive about.
