In this day and age when people don't give a second thought to copying software, movies, CD's or whatever, everyone thinks that things should be "free".
Well, guess what. The Tech II is a very closed proprietary system.
I'm just guessing that you're not a software engineer so you don't know what is inside a Tech II and how you would "emulate" it. Yeah, you can buy generic OBD-II compatible scan tools for a pc laptop for around $100 but those only give you the most basic of engine codes. And they do nothing to help you customize alarm, audio, climate, ECU or other Saab specific settings.
The real issue is that Saab keeps most of the details secret (as does every other car manufacturer). Can you BLAME them?
And this information changes constantly... The Tech II is updated quarterly with new software to fix bugs or adapt to new equipment and model year changes. How could an independent developer (or hacker) keep up with this?
Basically, it comes down to this... This is serious intellectual property. Saab has no obligation to release the details nor should they.
I don't mean to sound harsh, but I don't take kindly to people trying to rip off something for nothing.
