Recently, I participated in a consumer survey on luxury cars. At the site, the following cars were displayed: 2003 MB E320, 2003 Audi A6 3.0, 2004 BMW 530i, 2003 Lexus GS300, a prototype Infiniti M45, and the current M45. There was no Saab nor Acura as the cars are either AWD or RWD sedans. We didn't get to drive the car and was not part of the survey (why I don't know); on the other hand, if someone doesn't like the look of the car, there isn't much point buying I suppose, especially at that price range.

I am not an Infiniti fan as some may know (I like their engines but not their designs), but the prototype M45 is a better looking car than the current M45. The prototype M45 is similar to the G35 but a bit bigger as to be expected and will have AWD as an option and either a V6 or V8 engine.

The surprise to me was that many people actually liked the new BMW 530i. There is more room in the back in the new 5 but the driver controls seem out of place but I guess they must have put everything into the new and improved I-Drive. When the trunk is opened, the car looks really strange, as part of the trunk, which is part of the side of the car, also get lifted up.

I have driven the A6 a number of times so it is no surprise to me. The pleasant surprise came from the Lexus, it has one of the nicest interior, on a par with the A6 if not better. The new MB E-Series has the nicest interior as it should as it is the most expensive car of the lot.

After looking at all these cars at the same spot, I couldn't help but wondered what was BMW thinking. If I had that kind of money, I would get the E-Series and a E55 instead of the new 5 or M5.

Hey, maybe I will get used to the new 5-Series, but I think it is going to be a very long time :-).
