Completely agree. Just as with auto design, I hold the same line on other purchases. Design is key; so too is quality. Pottery Barn can be good for rugs (suprisingly thick wool varieties at decent prices), I found, but the furniture is just bad (style/quality) IMHO. Plus it's simply fulfilling to patronize smaller players, like Adler (his pillows are just simple and fun, for example), as opposed to mass retailers who go for quantity over quality. I definitely go to Crate for glassware and the like, but for larger ticket items, it's much more worth it to me to shop around and find quality, style and value. H&M, the Swedish clothier, just arrived in my area, so I'm anxious to take a look. From what I hear, the clothing is trendy and a bit disposable, albeit inexpensive.
So, yes, I concur with your post!
