I don't think this was survivable, seatbelt or not. Judging by the fact that the drivetrain was torn out of the car, (plus the car was broken in half), the shearing forces on the body would have cause massive internal damage.
Actually, looking at the roof, I think the car was up on its side at maybe 45 deg. or so when it hit the tree, giving credit to the airborne theory. Interesting that the handbrake is up- could have been from the impact, or was he trying something stupid?
We really don't get a good enough view of the road to see skid marks, but it looks like the little berms on either side of the road might be enough to get the car off the ground if he was really moving.
And to answer someone else's question about cutting the car in half for access to the victims, no, they cut out doors, roof, pedals/steering wheel, etc, but there would be no benefit at all to cutting off half the car.
