What, nobody gave out the PEI secret! Posted by CrNiFe [Email] (#408) [Profile/Gallery] (more from CrNiFe) on Fri, 17 Jun 2005 12:16:16 In Reply to: Q: travel in New Scotia, Prince Edward Il., N. It was nice to see all the post about Nova Scotia, but on PEI, you can easily do mini-day trips if you base yourself in Summerside or Charlottetown.
The weather is always a bit warmer in August, because it only gets warm in PEI when it stinking hot in NYC (Bermuda high phenomenon).
If you like sandy beaches, no crowds, and cool Gulf of St Lawrence water for swimming, as opposed to bathtub type temperatures, try any of the National Parks on the north Shore. Check out Anne of Green Gables in Cavendish, especially if you have young daughters.
We are on the way there this summer, for a major international reunion of my Mom's family, the McCarvilles, in Kinkora, at the beginning of August. I was born there, and one of my four brothers teaches at UPEI.
The mentality changes when you drive across the Confederation Bridge - things are a lot calmer on the Island. There are no large hills, except the one where they put the CBC TV tower near Crapaud.
An idea of prices - 500 Cdn for a week in a decent motel (owned by my Cousin), called the Country Pines in North Bedeque. Lots of B&Bs around too. Gas is more expensive, but they have it controlled, so it can actually be cheaper than in NB and NS! Food is good, lobster is always fresh.
As much as I like NS, it just is too rocky for me! Give me rolling red hills and estuaries anyday. If you like to golf, there are lots of family style clubs, with really reasonable green fees, and no line-ups!
Okay, that's enough from this Islander to set the balance on this thread. You can't lose - even if it rains, there are lots of family things to do.
