I know you said you shred everything, but I had an eye-opening experience a few months back. Usually i just toss my reciepts because the number says xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-1234 exp. 01/01. In other words, they basiclaly block out the first numbers. I was at a resteraunt last year (can't remember which one) and I paid with my card, and I was fully surprised to see the CC number was not blocked out at all on the recipt, in other words, the reciept for the meal had my full name, card number, and exp date. WTF?
By the way, my fiance' has a Ross Simons card and got an apology letter from Ross Simons last week for "accidentally allowing all the customer data" to be pulled from the databases. We already called up Experion and put a fraud watch under her Soc.
Good thing about all this is that the credit card companies and credit monitoring companies do a pretty good job at protecting the buyer, as long as you contact them when you notice somethings' up.
