Yep, cops are experts on everything automotive. Like all those Police Departments that bought dozens of dozens of Crown Victorias, and were then surprised when a few of them blew up after being rear-ended at abnormally high differences of speed. Uh, HELLO! The gas tank is BEHIND the rear axle, totally ready for maximum exposure in a rear end collision. As if that wasn't bad enough, these PDs then SUED Ford for a bad design. Like Ford made them buy the Crown Vics, or intentionally put gas tanks back there to maximize the damage from rear-end collisions. The sheer nerve of these groups to blame Ford for their own poor evaluation of the cars... I'm pretty sure even the simplest layman recalls what happens when you put the gas tank behind the rear axle - the Pinto Story is pretty widely known.
Bah... Sonata Driving Guy broke the speed limit, he got caught, he's got punishment coming. Fine. I simply cannot stand the fact that we get "expert" commentary on the offense. Leave the editorials and the storytelling to the media. They've gotten quite good at it over the years.
