MI, I didn't read any of the other posts, but consider that I recently (hey, actually, 4 years ago) had an unwanted change foisted upon me, at an employer I didn't like (I mean the entrepreneurial boss, that is), in a job I didn't like, with people around me I wouldn't go drinking with if I was paid, etc. Plus an hour and a half commute, both ways.....

Who was I kidding? The stress of the whole thing, or should I say distress, was taking years off my life, in terms of health. I even lost my sense of humour.

Okay, I landed on my feet, got a better job, with a better small company, with much more interesting people, doing something really useful, getting paid 50% more, and with a ten minute commute on a bad day. Doubt I would have found it if I hadn't been pushed.

All that to say, if you are going to be master of your own destiny, and you choose the change yourself, you will always feel better about it. If you like the current routine where you are, and you are surrounded by good friends, your kids, and family, it might be too much disruption.

I grew up as an RCAF brat, moved homes at the longest every five years, and still have a bit of nomad in me.

If you health is good, and you are up for a challenge, don't worry about the money so much. What if you move to NC, and someone sees your talents and offers you twice as much; employers are crying for qualified people.

With a recession about to hit in the US, well at least it looks like it from here in Ontario, with our loonie at 1.04 bucks, it would be smart to do the move on your own terms.

Good luck, and keep that chin up, eh!
