Some of this depends on the car and the size of the mirrors. I've been in some rentals that had pretty small mirrors and it was never quite right. Had a couple Pontiac Grand Prixs last year and it drove me nuts. I think it also depends on the height of the driver. Shorter people have a harder time in general in some kinds of cars.
My driveway is 135 foot long and about 8 feet wide. It is downhill going out and has a curve, and I always use my mirrors to back out. In a parking lot, all I have to do is move my head a little and the mirrors show me all I need in either the 9K or the 9-5.
What I love in the 9-5 is that when I use the memory seat switch it adjusts the mirrors, too.
