It's funny how one is able to drive a truck or cargo van safely with no rear visibility besides the side mirrors. Granted that the mirrors are usually larger and/or feature multiple angles, but I think a lot of it is just mantaining an awareness of the space around you. If you know there's a black car beside you a moment ago and want to change lanes but don't see the car anymore, it may be in a blind spot. It amazes me how many people are simply reactive in their driving and have no idea what's going on around them, then get frazled, twist their neck around, etc, just trying to change lanes. I think a lot of the more clueless people's driving would improve if they spent some time learning to drive a commercial truck or otherwise simply learned to have some idea of the space around them.
