or how it typically effects the dog w/o surgery, so it's hard to give good advice.
However, if the dog is starting to get around better, I probably wouldn't consider it for a 10-yr old dog. As others have said, dogs are very resilent. You could cut off the leg and a dog will still get around, at least until arthritis hits the other joints.
Is the dog's weight good? If overweight, I'd take care of that first.
At 10 years, it's really a crapshot how many more years you have. My Siberian Husky (Khatanga) was in GREAT health: eyes, coat, joints, energy, mind, etc. at 10 years, then sudden liver problems and he was gone in a matter of weeks.
I had ACL reconstruction 8 years ago, it was NOT fun. Although one poster had great success with his dog, how many don't? How many 10-yr old dogs are lost during any surgery?
