From what I recall of my own past leases, the landlord is given reasonable time to fix problems and the tenant is expected to be reasonably patient. Over two weeks... That's starting to be a considerable amount of time. I usually cook with a microwave, but if I actually used an oven all the time, that would be a major problem and inconvenience. It sounds like they don't want to spring the $$$ for a new stove, but if they're that cheap, are they going to want to give you a break on the rent? They should give you some kind of rent break in my opinion, even if its not much. Considering you are living in the same house as the landlord, I would definitely tread lightly and be as patient as possible. You don't want bad blood in the air, but you also don't want to feel like they owe you cause later on they might screw you again, and then you'll come back at them about how patient you were with the stove, but at that point it will have been a past issue and they will just laugh at that. Been there done that. Unfortunately, from my own experiences, the landlord really just wants their money and they will be very nice to you, but once you start messing with their cash flow, you start to see their real motivations. And that is business, and money. Its all about business in this thing, for both of you. Don't be afraid to stand up for youself. Perhaps withhold the next rent payment until the stove is fixed? That should get the stove fixed rather quickly.
