The printer is a Xerox 6128MFP and can be set up either way, with the default being a dynamic address. When I got it in July it needed a static address, but that was with the old Belkin router. With the new router it seems to do better with a dynamic address. I don't know this stuff, so we'll see.
It's a very small network as my office is in my house, so there are up to 5 computers connected (rarely all at once) and sharing the printer. We'll see how it works for a few days, and if it's not working right I'll call Xerox, which has excellent service here. And Apple can likely help to if needed.
Thanks for the input. I'll make a note of it should I need to dig into this further.
