two things:
The name "station wagon" is archaic. Station? Ya mean train station? Ya mean the special function of the car is use by urbanites to drop dad off at the station? Wagon? Ya mean something pulled by the family mule? It's small wonder that folks lost interest in this style. Sport wagon is better, but IIWUTM, I'd name all wagonish body styles sport hatches. (After consulting a focus group or three.)
In 2005, I was looking for a wagon, gave up, drove a CR-V and decided it was close enough, especially with the plus of awd. From the viewpoints of size and functionality, it's probably worked out better for me than a straight wagon would have.
