Well, a couple of side-notes:
- halogen bulbs are less effective and give more heat then HID welders. It is the heat which eats the reflector (the reflective coating, amalgam), so with halogen bulbs the light units have to be replaced more frequently
- most HID bulbs are rated to have 2000 hours of technological lifespan, most halogen bulbs go for 500-600 hours. The more bumpy the roads, the more unstable on-board voltage, the more +100500% of light they try to get out of the bulb - the less lifespan you get off the halogen bulb.
