As for parking cost, I have relatives who lives very close to the train station and has already insisted emphatically I park there.
Yes, I have thought of walking/biking, (in a previous job / living location I use to do the 10 mile round trip commute by bike on a regular basis). However, a couple of things. My kids are young enough they are in bed by 7:30pm, so I want to be able to get home without delay, so that nixes walking on a regular basis. The office environment is such I’ll minimally need to wear slacks and a blazer, plus I’ll likely be taking my computer with me on the train to get some work done there (about 1hr each way), so I can spend less time in the office, or at least get out at a decent hour on a regular or semi-regular basis. This does not preclude biking… just complicates things a bit more.
For getting a walk in, it likely would be best at the other end. The office is 1.5 miles from the train station, and I’m guessing the time differential of walking across downtown vs. riding the shuttle would be less… and taking an earlier train would be better as I’d be generally leaving before the kids get up anyway.
I also have at least one neighbor who also does the commute downtown by train, so if our schedules mesh I'm thinking about car pooling with him... make him drive in trade for free parking.
