I wouldn't be so quick to say that. The Porsche has a ~250lb weight advantage and probably launches a lot more easily than a c900T. That 250lbs should be the equivalent of about 25hp, putting them right on par with each other in terms of power:weight, and the 944 is almost certainly going to be quicker off the line from the combo of its RWD-edness and it's lack of turbo lag. The '89 944 NA was quoted as having a ~7s 0-60, which is equivalent to some of the most optimistic c900 tests of the day - most showed 8-8.5s, but some Motor Trend (aka totally unreliable) tests were showing low 7s.
Sure, the c900 is going to make quick work of the 944 with mid-speed top-gear acceleration, but most people associate "fast" with 0-60 or 1/4 mile times, and in those venues the 944 NA is probably every bit as quick as a c900T.
