I squeezed into my one car garage for 30 years now and performed all manner of Saab maintenance and repair in there. I made it work, but it was always a tight squeeze.
I am in process of downsizing and bought a small "cottage" near the coast. My only criteria was a large garage and workspace. I was happy to find, what amounts to, a big garage with a small house attached :-). There is great lighting, plenty of room for cars, tools, equipment and multiple Workbenches. And storage above for all of car and boat spare parts!
I've already done a few projects in there: dropped the pan on '01 Aero and rebuilt a sailboat transmission. Both were involved, multi day projects. What a pleasure! it's hard to price tag on the value of a space like that.
Similar to owning a Saab (or a Sailboat) the "numbers" might not make sense but the peace of mind and pleasure you get from it might outweigh the economics.
Those concrete prefab buildings look great, and while I cant say what the cost would be, it appears you get a lot for your money. If you have the green light from your better 1/2, I'd say do it!
